Reports from the city of Xudur indicate that troops have been withdrawn from the area and transported over the past two days to the airport in Baydhabo. The forces reportedly consist of clan militias as well as members of the 8th Brigade, with their number estimated at around 200 soldiers.

According to reliable sources, former President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, allegedly ordered that these forces be used in an attack against the Darawiish forces of the South West State of Somalia.

Local residents and security analysts have expressed serious concern that the conflict could escalate into clan-based violence, further worsening the already fragile situation in the South West regions. There are also fears that renewed fighting could lead to further displacement, loss of life and property, and a deteriorating humanitarian situation.
